Kit Heath Kids Jewellery Review

I feel very honoured to have been given the opportunity to review one of the stunning Kit Heath Kids jewellery range. In our home we hold Kit Heath Kids jewellery very close to our hearts as at 6 months old we had a naming day for our daughter and our gift to her was a Kit Heath charm bracelet. Each year to celebrate her birth we add another charm and so do our family so our introduction to Kit Heath Kids Jewellery was a very emotive one.

When our gorgeous package came through the post my three year old instantly snatched it from me saying mine Mummy I want to open it, and what a beautiful delightful treat she found inside. We had been given the Blossom Silver Necklace, it has beautiful pink enamel blooms set in a sterling silver heart. This necklace would make the perfect bridesmaid or flower girl gift. Also available in this design is a locket and stud earrings. This necklace comes in a luxurious and stylish red box and the red and white spotty luxurious gift bag. The necklace weighs 4.5g, the height of the heart is 16mm, the width is 13mm and it is 2mm in depth. The necklace comes on a 14inch chain that has 2 extra silver rings in the chain to adjust the length of the necklace. This beautiful blossom necklace retails at £40 and is worth every single penny.

Piri Blogger Event

I recently attended my first ever blogger event for Piri Kids I was delighted to be asked to attend and rather excited as I could take C, she has never been to London before so it was a great day out for all. While I was in the Piri talk and chat they had provided some fabulous entertainment for the kids such as face painting, a picnic and a wonderful session making sock puppets which C adored

I mainly wanted to attend the Piri kids event as I feel quite passionate about Piri,  it almost feels like part of the family as it has been used regulalry on C and got us through some our toughest periods such as her eczema and chicken pox.

Piri kids had the fantastic Dr Sarah Brewer in attendance who gave us a wonderful talk on using Piri kids when your child contracts chicken pox, we were given the true facts (not the urban myths) of how chicken pox are contracted and the incubation periods. It was a really interesting event and I was given even more reason to use Piri in the future.

Piri is an liquid antihistamine that can be administered when your child is suffering with conditions that can be very itchy such as Allergies, eczema, chicken pox and hayfever.

If your child does contract chicken pox the Piri website has some fantastic handy hints and tips to help you make your child more comfortable less likely to scratch their chicken pox which can cause scarring! you can find the hints and tips by following this link Piri has been helping children get through chicken pox for over 50 years so you know your child is in safehand of the piri family.

Piri are  on facebook you can also follow them on twitter @piriallergy

With C having already had chicken pox you can read my previous post on how we handled it and how C got on I have to say she was a superstar!

Guest Post from Carrie of Baby Swap or Shop

I asked Carrie from Baby Swap or Shop about how she manages her family finances after Christmas. Her website is a site where parents can sell or swap their preloved baby items without adding on additional costs that Ebay/Table shops sales/Carboot sales have.

How are you saving money in the post Christmas belt tightening that we all do?

We have had a clear-out to make room for new things and will be loading them up to the website so that other parents can buy or swap them. We are also having a few small personal cut-backs, a few less magazines/chocolate bars soon add up.

How do you budget for January and February?

We don’t particularly make any special plans for January or February. We don’t do a lot in January – like everyone else! We probably have a few weeks of healthy eating and no take-aways or alcohol until we are fed up of our New Year Resolutions so we save that way : )

If you have any items that are unloved and preloved why not list them on Baby Swap or Shop? There are plenty of parents looking for various items and we are sure you could find something else to love in return.

A special Mummy Daughter Moment…

The dress and the Ghosty thing!

Today I had one of those really special mother daughter moments with C, she climbed into bed for a snuggle  this morning and started to ask questions and one of these questions led onto our magical moment!

She kept asking  “what’s that ghosty thing on your head mumma” at first I was baffled and had no clue what she was going on about (she has been watching a lot of Scooby Doo lately and I assumed she was being silly) eventually she pointed to a couple of wedding photos I have on the wall and I realised that she was talking about my veil. I explained that it was a veil and it is what mummy wore on her wedding day and she asked “did you wear a princess dress Mumma” to which I replied yes and I got to wear a tiara just like a princess, the look of awe on her face was picture.

C asked if she could see my tiara so I took her to her bedroom where it was stashed away in a draw, she got it out of the box and marvelled at it, I explained that her aunty Rara (my sister) also wore it on her wedding day, she kept telling me” it is beautiful Mumma I love it”. C then asked if she could see my veil and princess dress, thankfully I have them boxed up in my wardrobe so we went back to my room and I got my wedding dress out, well she could not believe her eyes when the dress came out of the box she kept saying I must have looked like Belle from beauty and the beast which just made my heart melt.

The next thing she said was what made the moment so magical, she proclaimed that “when she is a big girl and gets married she wants to wear my princess dress” this is the very reason I kept my dress in the vein I hope I would have a daughter one day and she would want to wear my dress, I could have cried she was stroking my dress and then decided she had to wear my dress veil and wedding shoes all she could do was stand in my dress while I held it up but it was exactly what she wanted her little face was so cute.

At the end of our little dress up session I asked C who you think you will marry when you are older. Thinking that she might say a prince or her crush Jakey at nursery but her response really made me chuckle without missing a beat she very confidently replied “I am going marry my best friend Immy” so watch this space you never know!

Picture Box Movie Review – Fred Clause

Well it is the Christmas season and we have been spoilt for choice on Picture Box player the brand new subscription service which is available on Samsung Internet-connected smart TVs, iPads and PCs. Picture box adapt their movie themes each month and this is particularly relevant over Christmas as PictureBox have some fantastic family titles to keep the kids entertained!

PictureBox have hand-picked some feel-good delights for the whole family and they could not be easier to obtain just select your movie and hit ‘play’! They are fantastic Value for money  – only £4.99/month for 28 movies

Having a three year old in our home means that Christmas has become very exciting and she is now finding things hysterically funny and this proved itself very true when we sat down one wet afternoon for some snugly  family time and watched the movie Fred Clause.

This is a Christmas film that focuses not on Santa (Paul Giamatti) but on his older bitter brother Fred (Vince Vaughn) who resents his very generous and caring saintly brother. He does not live in the North Pole with Santa but in New York City where no one knows who his rather famous brother is and where his long suffering girlfriend Wanda (Rachel Weisz) suffers him being particularly flaky. Fred is not the most loveable character he is unreliable and a fly by the seat of your pants kind of guy who only speaks with his brother when he wants something.

It is when Fred goes to the North Pole after being dumped by his girlfriend to earn some money to open his betting shop that it gets amusing.  From here on in the movie had my daughter roaring with laughter especially the scene with the elves dancing to Elvis Presley’s “Rubberneckin’ (Paul Oakenfold Remix)”

Kevin Spacey play the part of Clyde a bitter man who hates Santa after he feels he failed him on the Christmas present front one year. Clyde is auditing Santa, the worst time for Fred to be in charge of the Naughty and nice list. The film is complete with the appearance of Kathy Bates as Fred and Nicks mother who is incredibly overbearing.

This movie really got us in the mood for Christmas it was fun light and for my three year old it did not take to much concentration we really enjoyed the humour around the constant repeat of the song  “here comes Santa Clause” (my most loathed Christmas song!) this movie is light hearted with one of the best snow ball fights i have seen in a movie! It has something for everyone humour romance, a sinister character and a misunderstood one, no one will be disappointed.

Picture Box film review – Funny People

We are big on Halloween in are house but not big on horror movies to put it politely we are a bunch of wusses!

Picture Box did however have a fantastic range of suitably spooky films to give you one heck of a fright night in on the spookiest night of the year! Being completely petrified of horror films led us to watch a really black comedy Funny People.

Funny people is about a well established comedian (Adam Sandler) facing his mortality after being diagnosed with a very rare cancer, it gets him to thinking about his career where he came from to what he has become and his lack of friends. While Seth Rogans character is a wannabe comedian who just can’t get his break while all his friends are getting theirs, that is until an open night mic night where he is told this long standing and famous comedian is making an impromptu appearance and he will be going on stage ahead of him.

After a chance meeting in a parking lot sandlers character employs Rogans to write jokes for him to boost his career, this in turn helps the wannabe comedian get his foot on the ladder as his opening act. The story develops as does the friendship between the comedians they bond and become close as Rogans character tries to build bridges between the people that the famous comedian has hurt and cut from his life.

When he takes specialist trial treatment he is cured of his cancer it becomes a battle of maintain the friendships that have been built on the thought that he is going to die, now he has to maintain them as the person he was before the cancer and this proves very tough.

The black comedy is a very worthwhile watch, it is slow but well paced and you really get a feel for the characters and their relationships it was released in 2009 and is a 146 minutes long it has a plethora of stars but the two leading men Sandler and Rogan are the real stars of the film,  it certainly beats scaring the pants of myself and having nightmares for a week!

You can get this film and may others on the picture box player which is a fantastic brand new subscription service. If you have a Samsung internet connected smart tv, an Ipad or a PC then you are already halfway there. You can sign up for this service for only £4.99 a month for 28 movies this is fantastic value for money!

Once you have signed up all you have to do is choose your movie and hit ‘play’! this service has perfect ease of use, it is compatible with your laptop or Pc, Xbox and your  BT Vision box

Picturebox has some fantastic content and this month is all about the horror genre their is a film for everyone no matter what your taste in music.

My Brave Baby & Phil Gallagher (Mister Maker)

Well just over a week ago my gorgeous baby girl had her operation, she had her tonsils and adenoids out. To say that I was a nervous wreck is an understatement but my awesome little C did not bat an eyelid all she could talk about was driving herself down to the operating theatre in an electric mini cooper!

I was not sure if I really wanted her to have the op and put her through all the trauma, but the surgeons confirmed after the operation that it was a good job we did go through with it as she had grade 3-4 tonsils (in laymen’s terms this means massive) and had a lot of adenoid tissue to be removed, they confirmed thiswould have been really effecting her snoring and sleep apnoea, and the tonsils being so large would definitely have made her life difficult with illness in the future.

The operation was done at the Royal Alexander Children’s Hospital in Brighton and they were phenomenal  they not only looked after me the emotional nervous wreck but they also made sure that my daughter was completely happy and comfortable, when in the first part of the operating theatre they blew bubbles to distract her while having her needle and sleep inducing medication put in she had no idea that anything was happening.

When she woke up she was groggy but perfectly happy, 3 hours later she was demanding food and running around like a headless chicken.  I cannot get over how quickly she bounced back after the operation.  It has not been the easiest week when the Calpol wore off she certainly felt the pain and I have had sleepless nights,  I can no longer hear her deep raspy breathing and snoring over the baby monitor, I had to keep getting up to check she was still ok! We were let out of hospital the next day just in time for me to make and decorate 100 cupcakes for the Brighton Baby Expo at the new Amex stadium

I was asked by one of the lovely ladies who runs the baby expo to make some cupcakes for Phil Gallagher who is Cbeebies Mr Maker which I very excitedly agreed to do them and I made the rest of the cakes for the lovely Brighton Mums stand, I was up until 12:pm decorating the to make sure that they were the best I had done, I made a giant cupcake that was put on the Brighton Mums website to be won after the expo. Mister Maker certainly liked my cakes as you can see from the photos he even took my business card

C was gutted as she was supposed to meet Mister Maker who is one her favourite people from cbeebies but was not allowed to be in a public place due to risk of infection, C and her daddy helped me drop of the cakes and who should walk in just after we arrived, Mister Maker himself and he was very kind and spoke with C she was very star struck bless her, when I presented the cakes to him at the ribbon cutting he asked how she was how lovely is that!

Mister Maker cakes Brighton Baby Expo

Flour and Sprinkles Meets Mister Maker

C has now made a full recovery and we are now reaping the benefits as she sleeps much better and and can eat much better and I am also hoping that we  will have a lot less sore throats chest infections and visits to the hospital!

Bebe Moda Discount code

I recently posted a review of a Bumkin Super bib that I did a test and review of and the wonderful Bebe Moda have kindly given me a discount code for my lovely followers to use.

I chose the fabulous blue Dr Seuss Cat in the hat bib and when it arrived I could not be happier as it was bright and very funky and would suit either a girl or a boy. It is made from a material that looks to be and feels like nylon but is actually the Bumkins proprietary silky-soft waterproof fabric, it is wipe clean and goes in the washing machine and comes out clean and perfect and as bright as it was when I first got it, I have also hand washed the bib and it came out perfectly clean with no effort at all.

The bib is Lead safe, PVC, phthalate, BPA and vinyl free, it has a Generous Velcro closure for adjustable fit, and it really is generous as it fits my nearly 3 year old, she really puts it through its paces with her morning cocoa pops and her much loved sticky fruit. It has a really very generous catch pocket that collects all the dropped or spilt food, saving your child’s clothes from a dowsing of food stains.

The bibs are really good value for money they retail at £7.99 and because of the quality of the material you will get a lot of use for your money, your child will grow out of the bib before it wears out!!! You can buy the Bumkins Bib on the Bebemoda website.

The discount code is valid until the 20th Novemeber and will give you 15% of any Bumkin bibs available on their website! the bib are fantastic value for money, they are durable long lasting and very funky! Having had one for my now three year old i can whole heartedly recommend them (I have a particularly messy eater!!)

Here i the link to their gorgeous website and the code for the discount is SUPERBIB

The Bumkins Bib would make a fantastic Christmas gifts to catch all the falling turkey and stuffing!

Happy shopping

A fear of eyes???

I need some serious advice; I have my gorgeous daughter C who turned 3 last week who has a fear of eyes???? Random I know but if she can’t see you eyes she pleads for you to either open them or turn round to face her so that she can see them.

We have various toys that she will not go near as she does not like the eyes, and if she sees someone in the street and they look mildly angry she will hide her face and say “Mummy they have angry eyes”

I am actually starting to get a little concerned as she goes on about this quite a lot now and has done for the last year, her favourite book is the Gruffalo but when we get to the part describing him and his eyes she makes me turn the page this is made ten times worse if she is tired and wont let me go any further in the book!

I find it really quite odd as she is a very clever little girl who is quite advanced for her age and has the speech ability of a much older child and verbalises herself very clearly and concisely so can tell me exactly how she is feeling.

Any budding psychologists out that that may have any idea where or why she has this fear, or any other parents who have experienced anything like this before I would love to know as it really has me baffled.

I really really look forward to hearing from

C is 3

Well we have hit another toddler milestone my little girl has turned three and we have just celebrated in style, what started as humble plans turned into (in true me style) an epic party.

My gorgeous little C some 9 months ago started to demand a princess pirate party, when I asked her do you want to be a princess or a pirate she responded “God mummy no I want to be a Princess Pirate!!!” and so the party was born.

I have never made my daughter anything but cakes so I got the daft notion that I should make her costume by converting her flower girl dress from earlier this year, now I never sew and had no idea where to start so I drew round the bolero that goes to the dress to make a very dodgy pattern and bought lots of pirate style material and set about making my master piece and I have to say I was pretty pleased with the outcome apart from my very sore needle pricked fingers!!

I made all of the bunting and had her party invites illustrated by a very dear friend and after that C’s cake came to life! I copied the characters from the invite, my hubby told me the two tier cake was excessive and would not be eaten! Boy he could not have been more wrong we only had half the top layer left by the end of the day.

I get quite carried away when it comes to doing things for my daughter and I am not ashamed to say that she got thoroughly spoilt, she had a face painter and we borrowed my sisters small bouncy castle did a piñata instead of party bags and had party games and lots of prizes. It is fair to say that the party was organised mayhem

It was exhausting but so much fun; with 25 children we had lots of fun and thankfully so did the parent (I did make sure that there was plenty of wine and beer) the party was pretty sugar fuelled and when the kids got home they crashed out so I had lots of thank you’s from parents for a long and peaceful evening so a great day had by all especially by the birthday girl
